Day Four: Twenty-One days with God

Day Four: Twenty-One days with God

Prayer was awesome on that fourth morning!  The first three days were a struggle to get into God’s presence but day four with no TV, music or heavy eating…wow what a difference! The Holy Spirit was sharing with me the dangers of distractions.  TV and music are deadly distractions to the Christian mind because for hours on end we allow all types of things into our inner man through our eye and ear gates.  Music is the one thing that penetrates your soul and spirit without invitation or permission.  I have often heard that there are subliminal messages in music that shape and influence our thoughts. Do get me wrong this isn’t a soap box kick to bash music in any way shape or form.  I still do enjoy music and limited TV; I just no longer indulge in the amore…haha!

Often as Christians and Christian artist we compromise by remaking a secular song into a Christian song.  There is a danger with doing so because we learn in the story of David and Saul in the bible that the heart of the artist rest on the music and not the words of the song.  Just because we change the words it does not change the original intent or destiny of the song (music).  The bible said that when an evil spirit came on Saul he would call for David to play to sooth his spirit. 1 Samuel 16:23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

David didn’t sing he played and the evil spirit left Saul because the heart of David rested on the music.  The heart of the artist is in the music not the words. I suggest before you get to tied up into your favorite Christian artist that you research the original intent of the song and heart of the artist if he or she is using the music of a secular artist.

Was not music Lucifer’s job in heaven?  His body is described and a beautiful musical instrument. Ezekiel 28:13  Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.Ezekiel 28:14  Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Ezekiel 28:15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Nowhere in scripture does it say he lost his ability to produce and manipulate music when he fell from grace.

We get bombarded with obvious and hidden messages of the enemy through TV and music and then when it’s time to pray those thoughts and images are battling with God for time and space in your subconscious.  They are battling for God’s attention in your life and He is not going to fight for your time. I challenge you to take a week away from TV and see how quickly you’re in His presence when you pray and how clearly you think. I was only in prayer less than 60 seconds and the Holy Spirit was over powering me and God was saying go ahead…just ask me for anything! Wow I didn’t realize how much TV and music barters for time in your life long after you hit the off button!!!

On day four I could hear God say…go ahead…ask what you will…now that you have delighted yourself in me you shall have those things that you desire and even those things you didn’t ask for…because you have eliminated the distractions!

Distractions are a thief of time and blessings. I challenged my Facebook, Twitter, Blog, LinkedIn etc. families a year ago to turn off their TV’s, Nintendo, Xbox or whatever; give up one of their indulging foods for one week and give time to prayer and post their experiences. So now a year later I challenge you to do the same and post your prayer experiences and let’s watch God change our situations and communities and nation through our prayers. He will change US when WE let the distractions go… a week too much, then can you give HIM 3 days? Whose up for the challenge…sign in?

Lord I release you to change me…..

I was now thinking, I can do this and it’s looking alive…

….to be continued on day five!
